Seeing the World Through Coffee

As the world enters into a New Year…a year that will be impacted by our previous waves of fear, social distancing, and moments of mental hardship - it is time to venture out into the world to remember what is important to us and what brings us joy each day.

I ask myself each day “What brings me joy?” and coincidentally, this question is always asked as my freshly brewed cups of coffee humbly awaits my attention, my cautious sip as I relish in the delicacy of its warm body, sweet taste, and powerful aroma remind me of the sole beauty in my life - coffee, cafe. Kopi, kahawa.

My 2020, like yours, was the strangest year of life on this bizarre planet we call home. I have struggled, toiled, thought, meditated, and most importantly - brewed and drank coffee. 2021 will begin with a research project to Guatemala, where I will delve into a lake district filled with small coffee shops working to promote community development.

Join me as I think, walk, cycle, surf, talk, learn and taste unique coffees from this ancient region. Originally from Las Vegas, Nevada - I have grown to love the United Kingdom, living in Oxford, the Cotswolds whilst spending time in Exeter and on a lovely art estate in the middle of wheat and barley fields. My life has been filled with hardships, turns and twists but plenty of joy and love.

I yearn to shine light on coffee producers, located in some of the most impoverished regions of the world. That cup of coffee in your hands most likely came from a poor smallholder farmer who may not be able to afford electricity or schooling for his or her children. There is much to learn about this beloved beverage. And I seek to enlighten, educate, and spread love and knowledge. Join me…
